STEVEN GERRARD has challenged Jordan Jones to maintain his standards at Rangers after capitalising on his chance to impress against Motherwell.
The winger made an impact off the bench against Willem II in midweek and improved on that showing at Fir Park as he scored his first league goal for Rangers.
Jones has struggled to make an impact following his move from Kilmarnock but Gerrard was encouraged by what he saw during a 5-1 win at Fir Park.
He said: “I had a feeling Jordan was going to play well because he was in a good place when he came on on Thursday That’s Jordan Jones.
“That’s the Jordan Jones I want to see and I won’t accept anything less than that because those are his attributes and if he brings that to the table he’s going to be a big help to us.”
The performance of Jones was just one of the positives for Gerrard to take as James Tavernier and Cedric Itten each scored twice in a comfortable Premiership win.
The Ibrox boss demanded that his side show a ruthless edge earlier this month and is pleased to see the goals coming from all areas at present.
Gerrard said: “I think the boys are doing everything they can to score as many goals as they can.
“It’s the hardest thing in football, to score goals. But for me it’s the standards.
“I don’t want the level to drop or to think a game is finished if there is time left. I want us to keep our standards and rehearse being as good as we can be.
“But going forward I think we are looking really, really dangerous and we’re doing that without arguably three of our best players, Jack, Roofe and Aribo, three big players for us that are unavailable at the moment. So to get the result we have done isn’t too bad.”
