Rangers defender Filip Helander has withdrawn from the Sweden squad with injury.

The Light Blues star has been in decent form recently for his club alongside Connor Goldson at the heart of the back line.

His performances earned him a call-up to the national side but he has now been told he can head back to Glasgow by boss Janne Andersson after reporting for duty with a ‘slight injury’.

He will therefore miss matches against Russia, Croatia and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.

The first derby of the season against Celtic approaches in 10 days, so Helander faces a race against time to shake off any issue to be in contention for a start at Parkhead.

Leon Balogun has also recently been nursing an injury but has began to return and could feature against the Hoops.

Meanwhile Ryan Jack is likely to miss the action on October 17 but new boy Bongani Zungu could make his debut.
