PIETER HUISTRA is confident Rangers can end Celtic's cycle of success as he urged supporters to keep their faith with Steven Gerrard's side.
The Dutchman became a firm favourite with the Ibrox crowd during his successful stint in Glasgow in the early 90's as he won five league titles.
Recent years have been a far cry from those glory days under Walter Smith, however, and boss Gerrard has been left empty-handed from his first two campaigns in Glasgow.
“My message would be something like keep supporting the team,” Huistra told the fourladshadadream podcast.
“Even now when you are in a lean spell and you have a few years not winning the title, coming back from the lower divisions, keep supporting the team because the good years will come. I am sure about that.
“It is always going in cycles, Celtic’s cycle is almost finished now and the Rangers cycle can start. Hopefully this season, that would be great. In these kind of situations, a great club needs great support and I know how loyal the Rangers fans are.
“I hope and expect that they will be loyal, that they will keep supporting the club in all means they can.
“I know as a player that even a small gesture from a supporter can help a lot and all these small gestures can combine to be a lot of energy and help the players and the club to move forward. Keep up the support and the good things will come, I am sure."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
