BENFICA manager Jorge Jesus says he is wary of the threat posed by Rangers ahead of his side's meeting with the Premiership leaders tomorrow evening - and revealed his players will be keeping an especially close eye on striker Alfredo Morelos.
The Colombian forward is now just one goal away from breaking Ally McCoist's club record of 21 goals in European competition for the Ibrox club - a tally that Morelos matched with his winner off the bench against Lech Poznan in Rangers' last European outing.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow's game, Jesus said that he expects Steven Gerrard's side to pose a greater challenge than fellow Group D rivals Lech Poznan and Standard Liege - and revealed that he can see a little bit of Germany legend Gerd Muller in Morelos' style of play.
Jesus told Sport TV: "The striker [Morelos] is very well known.
"He's a Colombian who doesn't have much of a playing style, he doesn't have an elegant aesthetic, but he's very dangerous.
"He's got that style like Gerd Muller.
"They [Rangers] play in a very complicated system, they try to imitate Liverpool's 4-3-3 which I know from playing against them in the Club World Cup final.
"They'll create more problems for us than the teams we've faced so far.
"They competed with Porto in the group stage last season, they won at home and drew in the Dragao.
"Whoever wins will have the best chance of qualifying and it's sure to be a fiercely-contested game.
"I've not doubt that we'll be facing our strongest opponents to date, including the league but even without our fans we're stronger."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
