Neil Lennon has blasted David Turnbull's Covid-19 diagnosis a 'shambles' after the midfielder returned from international duty with the deadly virus.
The playmaker returned a positive test for the virus after playing with the Scotland under-21s side in Greece. And his club boss Lennon was furious after yet another player came down with the illness after international fixtures. Odsonne Edouard, Nir Bitton, Hatem Elhamed and Ryan Christie have all been affected this season by coronavirus while away with their nations, and Turnbull is now the latest.
Lennon admits he will seek more clarity from the SFA over their rules which ensures clubs must allow their players to play for their country. And he told of the bitter disappointment he and the club feels after Turnbull's diagnosis.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound this afternoon, the Northern Irishman said: "It's, again, one of our players going away on international duty and picking up something which is bitterly disappointing from our point of view. We only became aware of it yesterday and obviously David is self-isolating now so we're hoping he's going to be okay and gets through it very quickly. But it's just not good enough from our point of view.
"We've all been tested twice this week again and we became aware of it yesterday, it's bitterly disappointing. We know there's some others among the under-21s who probably have it as well. Do we ask questions now of the SFA? Yes we do. The whole Ryan Christie issue the last time and now there's another issue with one of our players. It's a shambles.
"We're doing all we can with our protocols and health and safety, we work very hard to keep our bubble pretty much secure. We've had no positive tests within the bubble. It's all been outwith the bubble and when people are away on international duty."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
