STEVEN GERRARD insists he won’t get carried away with the Premiership standings after Rangers moved 11-points clear of Celtic in the title race with victory over Aberdeen.
The Gers continued their fine form this term as they eased to a 4-0 win at Ibrox and capitalised on Celtic’s draw with Hibernian on Saturday.
Goals from Ryan Kent, Kemar Roofe, Scott Arfield and James Tavernier could have been added to as Gerrard’s side produced another accomplished performance.
But there is no chance of Gerrard and his players getting ahead of themselves at present as they look to maintain the momentum that has put them in a promising Premiership position.
Gerrard said: “Aberdeen have been on a fantastic run. They have been excellent defensively, very hard to score against.
“So I’ve got to pay my boys credit. I know they’ve had some issues before the game but the focus is always on us. We had to go and do the job.
“We were playing against good defenders, a really organised team. Derek doesn’t get the credit he deserves at times for how well he sets his team up.
“Having said that, I’ve got to pay my players a lot of credit because they found the answers and they could have found even more.
“I look at the league table every time we play. I’m not going to deny that.
“But I’ve never known a manager to get carried away in November. I don’t know how many games we’ve played, but there is a lot of football to be played, a lot of challenges, a lot of big hurdles to get over.
“But I won’t deny I’m happy. I’d much rather be where we are of course. But stay humble. We can rest the league for a couple of weeks.
“We’ve got some big European games and a big game in the league cup against Falkirk to look forward to. We move on to the next challenge.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
