Bain 6: Could do nothing with the first Sparta goal but slow off the mark with the second. Not called upon much in second-half other than to pick ball out the net. But nightmare for fourth.
Elhamed 6: Put in a couple of decent deliveries from the right-hand side and did okay on the back-foot. Not as attacking as Jeremie Frimpong may have been but did well enough. Out of position for third goal.
Jullien 6: Won vast majority of his headers and solid in the tackle on his return from long-term injury.
Ajer 5: Allowed the ball to trickle into Julis's path for Sparta's second. Not his best showing in a Celtic shirt.
Laxalt 6: Always looks decent defensively on the left-hand side but his forward play still leaves a bit to be desired. Most of the play down Elhamed's right all evening.
Brown 5: Easily shrugged off the ball for the leveller and failed to dictate pace of the game for his side in the midfield. Subbed after just over an hour.
McGregor 6: Played Hancko onside for the equaliser from the corner in the first-half. Didn't do anywhere near enough to link with the attacking players.
Ntcham 5: Anonymous in the midfield. Celtic need a lot more from a player of his calibre in a game like this one.
Christie 6: Not at his creative best. Snuffed out by the Sparta defence most of the evening, had one effort wide of target early in the second-half.
Elyounoussi 6: Looked a tad more lively after the restart and put ball on a plate for huge Edouard miss.
Edouard 7: Showed both the sublime and the ridiculous with stunning opener and then missed a sitter in the second-half. Starting to get back to his best but should have had at least two goals.
Subs
Rogic 4 (on for Brown, 65): Came on with Celtic chasing the game but didn't see enough of the ball when he came on.
Klimala 3 (on for Edouard 82): Not given enough time to make an impact.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
