NEIL LENNON said that Celtic had proved a point to their critics after putting four past St Mirren last night in an impressive showing in Paisley.
An early strike from Tom Rogic and a late flurry of goals from Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and David Turnbull gave the visitors their second 4-0 away win in succession, and their third win in a row all told.
Lennon was thrilled by the attacking performance of his men, and said that they had proven just how good as side they are.
“That was far more like us tonight, so you’re scratching your head wondering where that has been all season,” Lennon said.
“We know that we’ve got more or less a clean bill of health at the moment, the players are playing better and we looked really strong. The second half was the best we’ve played in quite a while in terms of control, penetration, and a real desire to score goals.
“It’s a great win and it’s probably the best we’ve played here for some time. We could have won the game by more.
“I wasn’t particularly pleased with our first half, we gave the ball away a lot under no pressure.
“I had a few words with them at half-time and second half I thought we were magnificent.
“Everything about the team was brilliant, I just really enjoyed watching them, play.
“Rogic was outstanding the whole way through the game, and in the second half I was delighted with the whole team. It was a brilliant win.
“We missed a few good chances before the penalty, I thought we deserved to be well ahead by then.
“Once we go the second goal we really turned it on and you could see the confidence oozing out of the team. They were superb.
“They deserve a lot of credit for the way they played, so the point has been proven, alright?”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
