STUART MCCALL believes Rangers fans deserve to savour their title triumph after standing by their club on the journey from the Third Division to the Premiership.

The former Ibrox midfielder was part of the legendary nine-in-a-row side that delivered sustained success under the guidance of Walter Smith as Rangers enjoyed one of the most glittering periods in their history.

But it is their 55th league flag that means more than all the rest to supporters after Steven Gerrard delivered their first top flight title in a decade this term.

The achievement marks the end of ‘The Journey’ for Rangers and McCall, who had a stint as boss six years ago, knows what the win will mean to everyone at Ibrox.

McCall said: “Listen, we are going to enjoy it and we – the supporters, the players, the staff – deserve to enjoy it. It is a shame that there will be no fans there.

“The club has gone through a journey and at times it was so depressing but now they have this title. They sold more than 40,000 season tickets in the Third Division and the Rangers travelling support did so much for clubs in the lower leagues.

“I’m not saying they would have gone out of business, but there was a boost there for them playing Rangers twice a season. It was hard at times and no supporters deserve it more because they have stuck with the club through thick and thin and the ups and downs.

“Going down to the Third Division was hard enough and the journey back wasn’t without its difficulties, but this season and the title coming back now is a reward for everyone that has been involved, but most of all for the supporters.

“Even when they have been back in the top division, they had to see their biggest rivals winning and being successful and playing in the Champions League.

“So this one just means everything and all the perseverance of everyone who has been involved, right from Dave, John and Paul, to now has paid off.

“It was a journey to get back through the leagues, that was started by Coisty and his staff and the supporters have been there every step of the way.”
