KIRSTY HOWAT celebrated Rangers’ 55th league title as a supporter and a player as Steven Gerrard’s side savoured Premiership success.
Now she wants to be part of her own historic campaign as the Rangers Women’s team target their first SWPL silverware this season.
Malky Thomson’s side will look to pick up where they left off this afternoon when they face Hearts in their first match since returning to action last month.
While Thomson and his players have been kept in cold storage during the latest Coronavirus shutdown, Gerrard’s side have made headlines across the world by delivering a league crown that has been sought after for so long.
Howat has enjoyed success already in her career whilst on the books of Glasgow City but the striker knows what a medal with Rangers would mean this term.
Howat said: “There are plenty of girls in there who have won leagues, played in Champions League and won cups before and I think the recruitment has been really good in terms of that.
“Yes, I try and use my experience of grinding games out and winning titles and winning games to win titles.
“But in terms of the full squad, there is a lot of experience in there and I think we can all use that and use each other’s experiences to try and win the league.
“Seeing the celebrations of the Men’s first team when they won 55 was amazing.
“I actually put a little message in the group chat when all the videos were going out. It was a bit cringey to be fair and the girls were like ‘what?’.
“But I was saying that was what it meant to people. That should push us on to try and really go for it because it means so much to so many people.
“If we can get that first league title for the club it would be really special and it would be a great year for the club.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
