KIERAN TRIPPIER is confident England can continue to go from strength to strength this summer as they turn their attentions to Scotland.
The Three Lions got their Euro 2020 campaign off to a winning start on Sunday as Raheem Sterling netted the only goal of the game against Croatia.
Gareth Southgate's side will now look to make it two wins from two when they face Scotland on Friday evening as they attempt to build some momentum in the competition.
England are amongst the favourites to go all the way and lift the silverware this summer and Trippier believes there were plenty of positives to take individually and collectively ahead of the Auld Enemy showdown.
Trippier said: "No nerves. We're a confident group. We believe in our own ability and as a team.
"We had to keep in our shape and keep it tight. We tried to counter as quickly as we could.
"I thought we limited their chances. The most important thing is the three points and a clean sheet. We look forward to the next game.
"You might not get as many chances for your country as you do for club football. I'm absolutely delighted for Raheem and for the team.
"The way we handled the heat and the occasion... The fans were fantastic as well. It was amazing.
"We've not had fans because of Covid-19 but for the fans to be here, just warming up and seeing them, it's what we've wanted for a long time. I hope they enjoyed it today because we sure did.
"The first game is very important. It's a big three points.
"The next game will be even more important. We need to work hard for the next game."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
