Scotland midfielder John McGinn used his quick-witted humour to mock the recent trend of removing Coca-Cola bottles from Euro 2020 press conferences.

Started by Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, the 36-year-old immediately removed the bottles of Coca-Cola from view at the press conference before holding up a bottle of water saying: “Drink water.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is a renowned fitness fanatic and was clearly not impressed with the fizzy drink being branded in front of cameras at his press conference.

And Scotland’s McGinn addressed the issue in his own humorous way when he sat down for his interview.

Seeing no bottles of the popular drink on the table he jokingly asked: “Nae Coke?”

The comment got a laugh from those in attendance before the Aston Villa star took a drink of water ahead of the interview.

Ronaldo’s actions started a trend with Italy’s Manuel Locatelli repeating the Portugal talisman, while France’s Paul Pogba removed a bottle of Heineken beer from his conference.

McGinn’s comedic approach offered a light hearted view of the debate tackling the issue in typical Scottish fashion.

Ronaldo’s gesture coincided with the soft drink company having a $4billion fall in share prices with many pointing the finger at the Juventus star for causing it.

It is unclear whether the lack of Coca-Cola bottles at McGinn’s press conference was intentional and whether the actions of the players have had a negative effect on the brand.
