ANGE POSTECOGLOU has lauded the ‘incredible’ emotion created by the Celtic fans as his side cruised to a comfortable win over FK Jablonec.
A near-capacity crowd was welcomed back to Celtic Park for the first time in 18 months, and they were rewarded for their backing with a David Turnbull double and a late third from James Forrest which moved Celtic a step closer to the Europa League group stages.
It was the first time that Postecoglou had experienced such an atmosphere since his arrival in Glasgow, and the night had a massive impact on the Australian.
“The emotion was incredible,” Postecoglou said. “I guess both on the park and more importantly, off the park. The fans created something special.
“I thought our performance was ok. We started really well, we fed off the energy in the stadium and created some good chances and scored a goal.
“We lost our way a little bit, but second half we picked it up again and it was a real good job.
“We’ve got a really heavy schedule to maintain this sort of intensity, and a full house in here certainly helps us.”
Postecoglou was delighted that his players showed bravery on the ball and thrived on such a big occasion for the club.
“It’s part of who we want to be,” he said. “We’ve got to be a team who shows no fear, tries to play our football and dictate the game.
“It’s not easy to do to be fair, and I do put a lot of responsibility and expectation on the players to do that, but the other side of it is you get great rewards if you’re prepared to be brave.
“These last few games we’ve got great rewards from it.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
