ABERDEEN Colts were unable to provide a pick-me-up tonic for watching Stephen Glass as they were bundled out of the SPFL Trust Trophy at Hamilton.

Glass sat next to assistant Scott Brown at the back of the main stand hoping for good news to offset the first team’s nine-game winless sequence.

Despite a promising start, however, the young Dons never really recovered after losing Dean Campbell to a straight red card on the half-hour mark and were well beaten by their Championship opponents who scored through Adam McGowan and Kyle Munro.

“The big turning point in the game was obviously the sending off,” said Barry Robson, the Aberdeen B manager. “Until that point we were looking like we were going to do really well in the game. But it was a huge mountain to climb after that.”

“I thought the lads were fantastic,” said Accies boss Stuart Taylor. “It can be difficult playing against 10 men but I’m delighted with the two goals from the two younger lads.”

McGowan had seen his fierce early effort beaten away by Tom Ritchie before Aberdeen responded with a thumping shot from Kevin Hanratty and a Jack Gurr drive that went wide.

Their chances of progression, however, all but ended when they were reduced to 10 men when Campbell was sent off for dragging Ronan Hughes to the ground.

Hamilton took advantage just seven minutes later when McGowan burst in off the left before unleashing a low shot into the corner.

A flurry of chances early in the second half ought to have brought a second goal but some terrific goalkeeping from Ritchie denied substitutes Andy Ryan and Lewis Smith in quick succession.

A second goal duly arrived and it was a spectacular one, Munro collecting Brian Easton’s diagonal ball before threading a shot into the far corner.
