CELTIC are studying CCTV footage that was taken at Parkhead on Saturday after a supporter was accused of racially abusing Livingston defender Ayo Obileye.

Centre half Obileye was red carded by referee Bobby Madden in injury time in the cinch Premiership match for taking a swipe at opposition striker Kyogo Furuhashi off the ball.

Phillip Crowther, a Washington-based journalist who is in Glasgow to cover COP 26 and who was attending the game, posted on Twitter that the defender had been called “a monkey” by one fan.

Celtic have been in contact with Livingston since the match and have been examining footage of the area in the stadium where the alleged incident took place.

Livingston assistant manager Marvin Bartley, an equality advisor for the Scottish FA, has spoken to Crowther, the White House correspondent for the Associated Press.

A Celtic spokesman said: “We are not aware of any incident.

“However, we are already in contact with Livingston, we will treat these reports with the utmost seriousness and they will be investigated thoroughly.”

Meanwhile, Carl Starfelt, the Swedish centre half who limped off in the second-half of the Livingston match with a hamstring strain, looks set to miss the Europa League match against Ferncvaros in Budapest on Thursday evening.

Starfelt, a £4.5m signing from Rubin Kazan in the summer, told media in his homeland that he is set to be sidelined for at least a fortnight as a result of the minor injury.

If the four times capped 26-year-old does miss the Group G match in Hungary then Stephen Welsh, who last played in the 1-0 defeat to Livingston on September 19, is likely to come in.
