DOUGLAS PARK has expressed his gratitude for Steven Gerrard's 'outstanding efforts' during his time as Rangers manager.

The champions confirmed Gerrard's departure from Ibrox on Thursday morning as he clinched a deal to succeed Dean Smith as Aston Villa boss.

Gerrard leaves Rangers on the eve of their Premier Sports Cup clash with Hibernian next weekend and the Light Blues board now face a race against time to make an appointment ahead of a huge run of fixtures.

The 41-year-old guided his side to the Premiership title last term and chairman Park will be forever grateful for the impact that Gerrard had during his time in Glasgow.

Park said: “I would firstly like to put on record my thanks to Steven for his outstanding efforts over the last three-and-a-half years at Rangers.

“He has provided us all with some unforgettable moments, not least his delivery of the Scottish Premiership title back to Ibrox last season having not lost a match in the entire league campaign.

“In European competition, he has restored the good name and credibility of our club on the continent and leaves us in a very healthy position on the pitch.”
