DENMARK manager Kasper Hjulmand tonight tipped Scotland to achieve “something great” next year and expressed hope they will join his side at the Qatar 2022 finals.
The Red and Whites were bidding to become only the third European team ever to win all 10 of their World Cup qualifiers at Hampden this evening.
However, Steve Clarke’s men ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against the Euro 2020 semi-finalists to ensure they will be seeded in the play-off draw in Switzerland next Friday and play at home in the semi-final.
Hjulmand admitted that Andy Robertson and his team mates had deserved to triumph in their final Group F fixture and confessed he would like to see them make it through to Qatar 2022.
“First of all big congratulations to Scotland, to Steve Clarke and to the players,” he said. “You deserved the win today, you deserved to come second in the group and hopefully we see each other again in March.
“We didn’t show our best tonight and Scotland deserved to win. We have seen a progression with the Scottish team from the Euros until now.
“They have done a quality job and they have a connection with the people like we do with our own fans in Copenhagen.
“I think Scottish football is also up for something great in 2022 and I definitely hope they will join us at the World Cup.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
