ALEX RAE has slammed Connor Goldson as "weak" in a ruthless on air rant after Rangers' defeat to Hibs on Sunday.
The Ibrox outfit crashed out of the Premier Sports Cup at the semi-final stage as they were defeated 3-1 by Hibs.
After the game Goldson admitted he feels Rangers have “lost a bit of hunger” and he also claimed that he felt the game was over at half-time when his team were 3-1 down.
Rae was shocked by the comments and he was quick to vent his frustrations on Clyde 1 SuperScoreBoard.
He said: "You're led to believe this guy is one of the leaders in the dressing room, you heard Steven Gerrard saying this last year.
"Steven Gerrard said he had been monumental, so many games on the bounce, when he comes out and says there is a lack of hunger immediately your ears prick up.
"To guys of yesteryear like Richard Gough, Bomber Brown, Ian Ferguson, it's not even words they would utter at any point.
"This crop, this group, over the course of 10 cups up for grabs have won one. For the hunger, if it has to drop, you have to look at Giovanni coming in; he says he has looked at the last six games. They have conceded the first goal.
"You look at Scott Arfield and he is doing the in house media, and he says the standards have dropped.
"Not only are you having to deal with losing goals on a regular basis, which is the most important, because that is the foundation to go and get results.
"Then you look at this guy (Goldson) talking about hunger, and are looking about saying who hasn't got the hunger. I think he has totally misread this situation.
"It looks to me like he is looking at other individuals and he has gone 'they are not picking up, they are not doing this and that'.
"My suggestion to Connor Goldson is have a look in the mirror, and take responsibility for your own performances.
"Because he has most certainly dropped his standards as well.
"I think he's a decent player, but this doesn't bode well. The fans will pick up on this stuff and it looks weak to me, and I think it was totally ill-advised."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
