RANGERS star Ryan Kent's red card has been slammed and branded 'ridiculous' after the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen.

The winger saw red after receiving two bookings in the feisty encounter at Pittodrie.

First, he was booked after a coming together with Jonny Hayes as tempers flared and the Rangers man pushed away the Aberdeen defender.

Then, seven minutes from time Kent was given his marching orders after being ruled to have fouled Scott Brown as he hooked the ball down the line.

But BBC Sportscene pundits Richard Foster and James McFadden both believe the red card was harsh as they questioned the second caution in particular.

Ex-Aberdeen and Rangers full-back Foster commented: "It's so soft. Kevin Clancy has already got the card out before Kent even touches Hayes so I don't know who was getting booked.

"But just have a word with the two players. It's a heated environment with a lot of emotion - just calm the situation down.

"The second one - yes it is maybe just a foul - but you cannot give him a second booking for that, it is a ridiculous red card."

McFadden agreed that the second booking was harsh, but explained the first yellow may well have been warranted due to Kent's reaction.

He said: "The first one is (a yellow card) because of the reaction. The challenge on Jonny Hayes is debatable whether it was even a foul.

"Hayes knows exactly what he is doing, he wants to get into Kent's face he wants to frustrate him. He's trying to walk away, Ryan Kent, but he just can't help himself and he pushes Hayes and that's why he is given the yellow card.

"And when you see from here (second incident) you think he's caught Scott Brown and he's got a second yellow and he's off.

"But when you see it again, there's not a lot of contact - if any. Scott Brown might kick-through and hit Ryan Kent and go down."
