JON MCLAUGHLIN knows it would only be natural if Rangers allowed their minds to drift towards Dortmund next week.
But the keeper insists all attentions will be focused on Annan as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side aim for a Scottish Cup success this evening.
Rangers make the trip to Galabank on the back of impressive Premiership wins over Hearts and Hibernian and with a place in the last eight firmly within their sights.
The Europa League tie with Borussia Dortmund will quickly come into focus as the champions count down to a glamour fixture at Signal Iduna Park on Thursday night.
But it will be a case of taking care of the domestic job in hand first and foremost before Rangers can dare to dream of European glory.
McLaughlin said: "It’s always difficult. People would be lying if they said they didn’t have something like that in the back of their mind or didn’t have an eye on fixtures like that coming up.
“Especially with the away leg first, going to a stadium like that and playing in that atmosphere is probably something on a lot of players’ bucket lists.
“But at a club like Rangers, this is business as usual. We play a lot of games and the European ties are always in there among the league and domestic cup fixtures.
“It’s part of the job here to stay focused on the next fixture, get that out of the way first and make sure you are in the hat for the next round.
“If you’ve done that, then you can go and enjoy the Dortmund fixture. But in the meantime, there’s been no talk in the building from the manager or staff about that game. It’s fully focused on Annan."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
