ANNAN ATHLETIC are banking on a Goss finish to their campaign as they bid for promotion from League Two.

Striker Tommy Goss has been named cinch League Two Player of the Month for March after firing the team into the play-offs.

With Kelty Hearts having clinched the title, Goss wants Annan to cement second place as soon as possible to get a more favourable play-off path.

After five goals in March, he hit the winner at Stenhousemuir at the weekend as Annan bounced back from a painful home defeat by Albion Rovers.

"The Albion defeat was a disappointing result for us. It was just a bad day at the office and, in my opinion, was the worst we've played this year," he said.

"Hopefully, it was just a wake-up call for us as we'd been in such good form. We're now at the back end of the season and we now want to get our performances back to where they have been.

"Stenhousemuir had been a bogey team for us this season and we'd not picked up anything from them in our previous three meetings so we definitely owed them one."

Goss missed the first couple of games of March due to Covid but has hit six goals in four games since returning and is now the club's top league scorer.

"There's a bit of a competition between me and Tony Wallace to see who'll finish top scorer. I have 12 in the league and he has ten but, in all competitions, he has 13 and I have 12," Goss went on.

"But such things can only be good for the team. It's all still in our own hands. There are some massive games coming up and we have to get points in the bag and consolidate that play-off position.

"It makes a difference finishing second to third and we want to hold onto that second spot. We were third for a good while but results have gone our way and, now we're second, we want to stay there.

"We have a great group of players and everyone is getting their chance. It's not just the same 11 week-in, week-out and players are coming in and doing their jobs."
