DAVE CORMACK appeared to claim Stephen Glass was not the first choice to take over at Aberdeen.

The Pittodrie chief discussed a range of topics with Graham Hunter on the Aberdeen Youtube channel.

Among the talking points was the appointment of Glass as manager after Derek McInnes left the club by mutual consent in March last year.

Explaining the thought process behind appointing Glass, Cormack explained: "The rationale behind appointing Stephen, it wasn't just Stephen.

"It was Allan Russell with his significant international experience who had been at the World Cup with England.

"It was Scott Brown with his significant experience of Scottish football.

"Plus it was Neil Simpson moving up from the youth academy into the first-team coaching setup."

Cormack went on to reveal Aberdeen had two candidates pull out of the running during their search for a new manager.

The Pittodrie supremo even recalled the moment a "top candidate" explained he had accepted another role while on a final interview.

He said: "As far as other candidates were concerned, and the reason we sped up the process was because we were in a final interview with a top candidate for the job.

"Literally, while we were on the Zoom call with the interview, he stopped and said: 'Listen, I've just accepted a role at another club in England'.

"One other group also pulled out of the race for differing reasons."
