FORMER Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson could be on his way to Stark's Park after Raith Rovers were granted permission to approach the Kelty Hearts boss to discuss their managerial vacancy, according to reports.

The Championship club are on the look out for John McGlynn's successor after the 60-year-old took charge of Falkirk earlier this month.

Thomson is viewed as a rising star within Scottish coaching. The ex-Hibs and Dundee player guided Kelty to the League Two title in impressive fashion after replacing his old team-mate Barry Ferguson as manager last summer.

Thomson was working as a youth coach at Rangers before taking his first step into management and the 37-year-old could find himself in the second tier next season.

The Scottish Sun report that Raith have been granted permission to approach Thomson, adding that he could be 'quickly appointed' if talks go well.
