LIVINGSTON manager Davie Martindale admits he feels for the supporters who were caught up in the distressing scenes before Saturday's Champions League final.
Martindale travelled to Paris for the game as Real Madrid narrowly beat Liverpool 1-0 but saw first hand the lack of organisation around the perimeter of the Stade de France that led to the match being held up by over half an hour.
The size of the crowd outside the stadium appeared to overwhelm security, with tear gas and pepper spray being used in the direction of fans, including children.
Amid claims from the French authorities that some fans had fake tickets, Scotland and Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson revealed how a friend he had given a ticket to could not even gain entry to the stadium.
UK Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries has urged UEFA to launch a formal inquiry and Martindale has expressed his concern for the way supporters were treated.
Martindale tweeted: “First Champions League final for me. "Disappointed for all LFC fans, I would have loved to have seen them lift the trophy live.
“Safety and control methods to get in the stadium were shockingly bad and I feel genuinely sorry for the fans caught up in that.”
