Aberdeen have confirmed the signing of Hayden Coulson on a season-long loan from English Championship side Middlesbrough.

The 24-year-old left-back signed his first professional contract with Middlesbrough in 2016 and subsequently enjoyed two loan spells with St Mirren and Cambridge United before returning to the Riverside Stadium.

The former England Under 19 International broke into the Middlesbrough first team in 2019, scoring his first league goal in February 2020. He has gone onto make 49 appearances for the Championship side having spent last season on loan at Ipswich Town and then Peterborough United.

The Dons ninth summer arrival, Coulson arrives looking to make an impact and manager Jim Goodwin believes he has all the attributes required to make a positive impression during his time at Pittodrie.

He said: “Hayden fits the profile of full back we’ve been looking to recruit.

“He’s athletic, attack minded and has gained some valuable experience at a high level having played almost 50 games in the English Championship for Middlesbrough.

“I’m delighted we were able to get this loan agreed and thank Middlesbrough for their assistance in making this happen.”
