Joe Hart 7
Made some great saves during the game, including right at the end of the first half and another not long after the break. Without him, it could have been a higher scoreline.
Josip Juranovic 6
Another solid display from the Croatian, who seems to thrive in the big games. He was as good going forward as he was defensively and played Timo Werner out of the game from the majority of the match until he scored.
Cameron Carter-Vickers 7
The American international was solid throughout and kept touch tight to RB Leipzig's danger man Christopher Nkunku to keep him quiet.
Moritz Jenz 6
It was a good performance from the centre-back as he made some crucial interceptions and progressed the ball well from the back.
Greg Taylor 8
He made a great defensive clearance right at the start of the match and continued this form throughout the night. Was also very effective going forward in the inverted role and came close to scoring himself a couple of times.
Matt O'Riley 7
Was a big night for the 21-year-old as he played the deeper role in midfield for the first time in Europe. The woodwork denied him his first Champions League goal during the opening 45 minutes.
Reo Hatate 6
Had some slack passes at times, which almost put his teammates under severe pressure.
Sead Haksabanovic 6
Like the other forward players, he looked sharp in the first half in particular. Always made himself available for a pass and was willing to take a man on.
Daizen Maeda 6
At times he was involved heavily in the attacking output of the team. Had a few excellent touches and made some very good runs. However, during other moments he seemed to dip out of the match.
Kyogo Furuhashi 6
The Japanese forward lead the press well during the 65 minutes he was on. His link-up play was good. He should have scored in the first half.
Liel Abada 6
It was a tough night for the winger. A few times, he tried to face his man up but could not get past him. His evening came to an abrupt end when he limped off before half-time with what looked like a knee injury.
Substitutes
James Forrest (for Abada, 41) 6
He did the hard yards after coming on and was constantly available for a pass going forward.
Giorgos Giakoumakis (for Furuhashi, 66) 4
The Greek did not receive much service while he was on the field apart from one chance when he appeared to be held back, but no penalty was given.
David Turnbull (for Haksabanovic, 66) 4
It was a quiet 25 minutes from the midfielder.
Aaron Mooy (for Hatate, 66) 4
He had a chance near the end, but he wasted it.
Alexandro Bernabei (for Maeda, 80) 3
No time to make an impact.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
