Joe Hart 7
Made a crucial save from Shakhtar's danger man Mykhaylo Mudryk just before half-time. His distribution was good throughout the match, and he could do nothing about the opposition's stunning equaliser.
Josip Juranovic 8
Another solid contribution from the Croatian international who advanced forward when required, and this allowed the Hoops to break on the counter-attack at times.
Cameron Carter-Vickers 7
The American was solid as usual during the 90 minutes. He will be disappointed with the goal that his defence conceded, but there was nothing he could do about it. At times the former Tottenham man made some crucial interceptions that kept his team in the game.
Moritz Jenz 7
He had quite a quiet night. His passing and positioning were fine. Near the end of the game, he produced a great bit of defending, which stopped the Ukrainian side from taking all three points.
Greg Taylor 7
Was solid defensively and always tried to provide an option going forward in the inverted full-back role. Played some nice passes.
Matt O'Riley 7
Had some bright moments but also some frustrating ones. His distribution was not up to his usual high standards, and a few times advancing runs from his fellow midfielders were caught short back, a lack of quality passing from the midfielder.
Reo Hatate 6
It was an up-and-down game for the Japanese international as, at times, he dictated play while he looked off the pace at other moments. He did not make any game-deciding mistakes.
Sead Haksabanovic 7
Made himself available and played the ball across, which led to Giakoumakis' finish. Was a threat in the first half but dipped out of the game.
Giorgos Giakoumakis 8
Scored the opening goal of the match. The Greek international was everywhere during the time he was on the pitch, and he finished his opportunity well when the ball broke kindly to him in the box.
Kyogo Furuhashi 7
He was playing a slightly different position than usual which saw him almost as number 10 at times. His runs and passing did create opportunities for the Parkhead club. However, he missed a great chance late on.
Liel Abada 6
The Israeli struggled to make an impact during his time on the pitch. His passing was erratic at times, and a few times, his touch let him down.
Substitutes
Daizen Maeda (for Haksabanovic, 65) 5
Did make an impact and cause the Shakhtar defence problems.
Aaron Mooy (for Furuhashi, 65) 5
Had some opportunities in the advanced role, but his final ball let him down.
James Forrest (for Abada, 65) 5
Was lively and put in a few good crosses
David Turnbull (for Hatate, 84) 4
Had no time to make an impact
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
