RANGERS captain James Tavernier is currently the most valuable player in the Scottish Premiership, according to new 'On-Ball Value' statistics.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team have been struggling both domestically and in Europe in recent weeks, but data has suggested that they still have some of the most influential players in Scotland's top flight.

New data from leading statistic company StatsBomb show that Tavernier (0.59) and Ryan Kent (0.51) are in the top three best-performing players in terms of OBV, while Borna Barisic (0.40) is also in the top 10.

The 'On-Ball Value' model is a possession value model that objectively and quantitatively measures the value of each event on the pitch.

In short, it’s a model that looks to assign a value to each action that takes place on the football pitch based on the positive (or negative) impact the action has on the team’s likelihood of scoring (and conceding).

Celtic winger Jota (0.55) is in second place, while Liel Abada (0.45), Josip Juranovic (0.40) and Anthony Ralston (0.34) are also in the top 20.

Other top performers include Dundee United's Aziz Behich (0.48), Kilmarnock winger Danny Armstrong (0.43), St Mirren's Ryan Strain (0.38) and Cristian Montano (0.37) of Livingston.

It should be noted that the list only comprises of players who have played 300 minutes of football or more and only includes performances in the Scottish Premiership.
