GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST is on the shortlist for a quickfire return to management at FC Utrecht after they sacked their boss for attacking one of his own players.
The former Rangers boss was axed last month after a disappointing start to the season where they trailed Celtic in the league and had a calamitous Champions League campaign where they became the worst team ever to play in the competition.
Successor Michael Beale had his first game in charge this week in a 3-2 win over Hibs and van Bronckhorst is without a club.
But he's been named on a shortlist to take charge at Utrecht, who are currently in seventh place in the Dutch Eredivisie, after they sacked Henk Fraser following a bust-up with striker Amin Younes, when he reportedly grabbed him by the throat during a training camp.

Dutch TV pundit Jan Joost van Gangelen said: "Giovanni van Bronckhorst is on the list.
"Of course, he was fired recently by Rangers, but Vitesse Arnhem has turned out to be a kind of lifeline for Phillip Cocu and Utrecht can also be a lifeline for a big name like him too."
Utrecht confirmed they had binned Fraser after the unsavoury incident this week.
They stated: "Henk Fraser is no longer manager at FC Utrecht. An incident on the training pitch in Utrecht in which Fraser showed transgressive behavior, is the reason for this."
Fraser admitted he had to go. He said: "This has never happened to me as a coach. It doesn't suit me and it doesn't suit the club.
"I have damaged the club with this and that hurts many people, including me."
Van Bronckhorst is reportedly up against former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam, who was last in charge at FC Cincinnati, for the job.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
