ABERDEEN star Ross McCrorie is attracting interest from the Championship as scouts get set to watch him in action against Rangers tonight.

The 24-year-old has been a regular feature of Jim Goodwin's side once again this term and has performed well in both defensive and midfield roles for the Dons.

That fine run of consistent form has attracted potential suitors from south of the border and Championship clubs will be represented at Pittodrie for the Premiership clash.

McCrorie scored three goals in as many games in the League Cup wins over Dumbarton, Stirling Albion and Raith Rovers at the start of the campaign and netted his fourth of the season as the Dons beat Livingston in August.

Now the former Ibrox defender will have the chance to impress once again as Aberdeen attempt to inflict a first defeat on new Rangers boss Michael Beale just days after he got off and running with a battling 3-2 victory against Hibernian.

McCrorie moved to Pittodrie on an initial loan deal two-and-a-half years ago and penned a new long-term contract with the Reds earlier this year as he committed himself to the club until the summer of 2026.

His form has been a key part of an impressive start to the campaign for Goodwin's side as the Irishman now targets the scalp of Rangers just days after attracting widespread criticism for his defensive approach in the defeat to Celtic.

Liam Scales was ineligible for the Premiership clash against his parent club and Goodwin is hoping for positive news soon as he seeks to do a deal to keep the stopper as part of his squad for the second half of the season.

Goodwin said: “The chairman (Dave Cormack) was due to speak to Celtic’s board to get a feel for what their thoughts are.

"I know that Steven Gunn (Director of Football) has been on to Celtic already. I think we will get confirmation on that one pretty soon.

"Obviously Celtic have signed another defender who will be coming into their fold in January. The boy (Moritz) Jenz was on the bench for them on Saturday and (Carl) Stafelt is back now.

"Realistically I’m not sure they will be needing Liam back but we will have to wait to get that confirmed.”
