Zander Clark has called on Scottish football governing bodies to do more to help with player safety.

The Hearts and Scotland goalkeeper was pelted by objects thrown from the Hibernian support today during the Edinburgh derby.

As a result, Clark had to receive treatment for a gash on his head, but he did continue his shift in goals.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Clark said: "I'm not sure what it was. There was plenty of them, listen it is one of those.

"We'll let people on the outside deal with that and see what happens.

"It is not nice. Listen I went back to get a drink of water and I end up with blood pouring out my head.

"I am big enough and ugly enough to take it. Hopefully, the hierarchy will do something about it because we don't want to see it in football.

"Players are paid to do a job and put an entertaining game on, which I thought we did. But we don't want objects thrown at any level."

Lawrence Shankland’s first-half double helped Hearts strengthen their grip on third place as they eased to a 3-0 victory over Hibernian in the Edinburgh derby.

Shankland scored after eight minutes and added a second from the penalty spot before Stephen Humphrys’ stoppage-time strike made sure of the points.

On the game, manager Robbie Neilson added: "I am delighted for the fans. We had 17/18,000 here.

"They want to see us working hard, making tackles, getting about people and ultimately winning the game.

"It sends them up the road happy. and that is the key message to the players in there as well.

"That is what it is about at this football club."
