Udinese face added competition in the race for Ryan Porteous’ signature after fresh continental interest in the Hibernian defender.

The Easter Road club held talks with new suitors on Monday as clubs consider a move for the in-demand Scotland cap during January's transfer window.

The 23-year-old has refused a new contract with his boyhood club and, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season, Hibs could cash in now rather than let him leave for free in the summer.

It had been suggested that Italians Udinese were expected to come back to the table after discussions in December, when the clubs were said to be a 'distance apart in their valuations’.

However, it is understood the Serie A side have not been in contact with Hibs for some time over Porteous, who is reportedly also interesting the likes of Watford, Sunderland, Hull City and Norwich City.

Now another top-flight European club have become the latest to enter the race and are mulling over an offer after requesting Hibs’ asking price.

Porteous was instrumental in Hibs’ 3-2 victory over Motherwell on Sunday as a crucial away win eased the pressure on under-fire manager Lee Johnson.
