Aberdeen have announced the signing of Jay Gorter on loan until the end of the season.

The Pittodrie club agreed a deal to bring the 22-year-old goalkeeper in on loan from Ajax.

Gorter joins Aberdeen after first-choice keeper Keller Roos suffered a thigh injury.

It's expected Gorter will challenge Joe Lewis for a starting spot in Roos' absence from the squad.

The Ajax loanee is looking for game time at Aberdeen having played a backup role for the Eredivisie giants following a move from Go Ahead Eagles in 2021.

A club statement read: "Aberdeen FC today confirms the signing of goalkeeper Jay Gorter, subject to successful completion of the UK immigration process.

"The 22-year-old arrives at Pittodrie until the end of the season from Eredivisie club Ajax.

"Jay joined Ajax in the summer of 2021 having signed a four-year deal. Prior to this move he made over 40 appearances in the Dutch second tier with Go Ahead Eagles.

"Ajax have high hopes for the young keeper who arrives at Pittodrie to compete for the number one jersey with Joe Lewis and fellow Dutchman Kelle Roos once he is fit again.

"Tom Ritchie has also returned to Pittodrie for the second half of the season to help form a strong goalkeeping department under the stewardship of Craig Samson."
