Dundee midfielder Paul McGowan has joined Dunfermline until the end of the season.

The 35-year-old has reunited with former Dens Park boss James McPake at the League One side.

McGowan, who came through the ranks at Celtic and has also had spells with Morton, Hamilton and St Mirren, has been on the books of Dundee since 2014.

His game time has been limited this season under manager Gary Bowyer, having made just 14 appearances.

After announcing the deal, McPake said: "He's a player Dave [Mackay] and myself know really well. Over the course of our time at Dundee he played the most games for us.

"Personally I played with him, coached him and managed him. First and foremost he's a fantastic footballer, with bags of experience, that in a young group will be very helpful.

"While we do have some experience within our group we felt adding to that was crucial. Just a year ago I was playing Paul in the Scottish Premiership and he had also started this season well too.

"Paul had a little bit of a niggle but has been back training for three and a half weeks, hence the reason it's maybe taken a little longer. We also spoke in the transfer window that it's important not to just add players, they've got to be the right people and in terms of the professionals I've worked with over my career Paul comes out at the very top.

"The way he trains, he's a winner, he wants to win every day, and the way he conducts himself in the dressing room too.

"We're just delighted to get it done and delighted to be working with Paul again.”
