Torino chairman Urbano Cairo has confirmed they expect to complete Josh Doig's £5 million transfer this week.

The Scotland Under 21s captain is set to land former club Hibs a windfall of up to £1.4 million when the deal eventually goes through after the capital side negotiated a bumper 27.5 per cent sell-on when they sold him to Verona last summer.

Doig seemed set to join Lewis Ferguson at Bologna, but Torino have moved in front of them in the race to land the youngster, as Bologna's sports director Giovanni Sartori admitted earlier this week when he all but confirmed Doig's impending transfer to Turin.

And Torino chief Cairo is hoping to get the deal over the line.

He said: "I'd like to quickly close the transfer of Josh Doig so our manager Ivan Juric gets the players he wants for the new season.

"The next few days will be important."

Doig, 21, made a total of 17 appearances in Serie A last season of which 15 of them were starts.

Previously, he made 78 appearances for Hibs in all competitions and is set to net the Easter Road club a significant boost to their transfer budget for this season.
