BARRY Robson hailed Aberdeen’s performance at Pittodrie today as their best against Celtic in years and admitted individual errors had cost them a result.
And Robson, whose team lost their second cinch Premiership game of the 2023/24 season 3-1, absolved Nicky Devlin, who gifted Kyogo Furuhashi the visitors’ second goal, from any blame for the loss.
The former Celtic midfielder also stressed that he expects to add further to his squad with more new signings before the transfer window closes in this country on Friday, September 1.

“We came up against a really good treble winning side with a top manager,” he said. “We were really brave. We tried to go after them and made the game a bit basketball at times.
“Sometimes it is survival of the fittest out there. It was entertaining stuff and it was dangerous for us at times, I get that. But we wanted to have a go and wanted to try to win the game.
“Unfortunately we didn’t which was probably our own doing with a couple of individual errors which cost us. Also the quality of the opposition as well.”
Robson added: “We are going to make mistakes, we all make mistakes. Nicky Devlin was outstanding all the way through the game. Having to try to deal with Daizen Maeda who has that speed. He coped well with it.
“We tried to play in a way that is aggressive and brings speed to the game. I think we did that and I think that is as good a performance as you have seen from an Aberdeen team here against Celtic for a lot of years.
“We are trying to build a team that is going to do well. With the signings we have made so far they are all Aberdeen players. Jimmy McGarry flies in tonight at nine o’clock. And we will be adding on top of that three or four players. That is what we are looking to do.”

Aberdeen will take on either Zalgiris Vilnius of Lithianuia or BK Haken of Sweden in the Europa League play-off round later this month - but Robson stressed that he is in no hurry to bring in new faces before the double header.
"I just want three or four in any time," he said. “The club are trying so hard and have been outstanding in trying to get that done.
"I wanted to make sure we did a proper window where we got our players and that is why it is taking a bit of time. The ones we have signed have got real value in the team. We need to make sure the next three or four who come in the door are right and strong and improve us."
