Anna Burnet from Argyll and Bute, alongside her sailing partner, Englishman John Gimson, won gold at the European Nacra 17 European Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal.

The Olympic silver medallists finished eight points ahead of Italy’s Olympic champions, Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti, with the Brits awarded gold after the final medal race was cancelled due to lack of wind on the course.

It was Burnet and Gimson’s second gold medal at the European Championships having also won the event in 2021 and it caps off an excellent season for the pair, which also saw them win World Championship silver.

Burnet’s fellow Scot, Fynn Sterritt, was also in action in the 49er European Championships, finishing in 26th place alongside James Peters.
