Scotland international Scott McKenna has joined FC Copenhagen on loan.

The Nottingham Forest centre-back will spend the second half of the season at the Danish club.

McKenna, 27, had previously been linked with both Celtic and Rangers but has now completed a loan move to Copenhagen from the Premier League.

The move could see McKenna play in the knockout stages of the Champions League with the Danish club facing Manchester City in the round of 16.

"I see it as a really good opportunity for me,” said McKenna of his move. "F.C. Copenhagen are an internationally respected club who play for the titles every season, and who have done fantastically well on the international stage.

“I'm really looking forward to meeting the team and joining the training camp, which is a perfect starting point for me in terms of getting into the group quickly. I will do my utmost to ensure that the title comes back to Copenhagen again.”

Copenhagen head coach Jacob Neestrup commented: "I am very happy that we’ve been able to secure an agreement with Scott, who has been a top priority on my part as well.

“We get a player who from day one can give us additional quality, competition and stability in that position.

"He has a strong physical presence on the pitch, a very impressive aerial game and good ball distribution, so we see him fitting in well with our way of playing.

"Now he has a good opportunity to get stuck into things with the training camp.”

Sporting director Peter Christiansen added: "We’ve had the desire to strengthen defensively, where we’ve been affected by injuries to key players.

“With the arrival of Scott, we get an experienced and strong player who will be able to contribute immediately.

“He has proven himself at a very high level and we are sure that we will get a lot out of him this spring.”
