Livingston have announced the signing of midfielder David Carson from Inverness Caledonian Thistle on an 18-month contract.
The 28-year-old arrived at Caledonian Stadium in the summer of 2019 from Morpeth Town and featured for the Championship club 32 times during his first season before the campaign was curtailed due to the Covid pandemic.
He has made over 160 appearances for the Caley Jags, most notably in the Premiership play-off final against St Johnstone at the end of the 2021/22 season and during the Scottish Cup final defeat to Celtic in June of last year.
In September, he celebrated his 150th match for the club in a league match against Dundee United.
Carson enjoyed a youth career with Newcastle United and Sunderland, before signing his first professional contract at Northern Premier League side Ashington. He would then earn a move to EFL Championship club Blackburn Rovers in 2014.
After two years with the Riversiders, he returned to the non-league in England with South Shields, Whitby Town and latterly, Morpeth.
He joins the Tony Macaroni Arena with the Lions rock bottom of the Premiership, eight points adrift from safety. He is expected to be available for Saturday’s match away to Rangers at Ibrox.
Livingston manager, David Martindale said: “I am delighted to secure David’s signature and bring him into the club.
“He can play in a number positions but, for me, is best in a defensive midfield role.
“He has bags of endeavour and desire to work hard for the team and I’m sure this will see him quickly become a fans favourite.”
In a statement announcing his departure, Inverness said: “The club would like to place on record our thanks to David for his contributions while at Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC and we wish David and his family all the very best in the future.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
