Derek Adams is set to hold talks over his future at Ross County.

It comes after the Staggies slumped to a 5-0 hammering at the hands of Motherwell at Fir Park last night.

The result pushed the Highlanders even deeper into relegation trouble with their form showing no signs of picking up under Adams.

They're nine games without a win and a five-point gap has been opened up by the teams above them. County currently occupies the relegation play-off spot, with Livingston six points below in bottom place.

Adams returned to Dingwall for a third stint in charge of the club just three months ago after Malky Mackay was sacked in November.

Now, it seems he's set for an honest conversation with Roy MacGregor and CEO Steven Ferguson to consider what's the best way forward for the club as it aims to secure Premiership safety.

He said: “I’ve got to look at the bigger picture for Ross County. It was in a difficult position when I went in and it’s in a difficult position now. I’ll have a conversation with the chairman and the CEO and go from there.

“I tried to come in and help but the club’s in a difficult situation. I’m not surprised and that’s difficult for me to say because Ross County is a fantastic club. But at this moment it’s in a real difficult circumstance. We are five points adrift now. We’re in the same position as we were when I came in 11 games ago.

“The problems are continuing. We are not getting wins. We created chances but didn’t take them. We have seven players out injured, the majority of those needing operations. The scoreline is a shock. At times we’ve had good performances and not got the result. But tonight we never performed well enough.

“The number of errors we made... they picked us off and scored five. Motherwell could have scored a lot more tonight. Football is about decision making and as football players in and out of possession we have to be better.

“It’s not rocket science, it’s seeing your man, having the ability to pass the ball and make decisions. We never did it well enough.”
