Angus Gunn 6
Beaten all ends up by stunning Reijnders strike. Brilliant fingertip save to deny Depay early in second half but slack ball led to Netherlands second as Wijnaldum headed into bottom corner. No chance at third or fourth.
Andy Robertson 7
A very welcome return for the Scotland captain. Solid in a compact defensive showing and caused some serious problems down the left wing - just missing, usually excellent, final ball.
Kieran Tierney 7
Another player Steve Clarke was thrilled to have back at his disposal. Professional performance. Stepped out from defence with the ball and keen to drive Scotland forward at every opportunity.
Jack Hendry 5
Looked a little uncertain at times - exemplified as he dropped deep as team-mates played for offside in first half. Not as composed as usual looking forward with plenty of sideward passes.
Ryan Porteous 5
Started brightly but struggled as minutes wore on. Mix-up gave Reijnders space for opener. Crucial block to deny hosts tap-in in latter stages. Not convincing alongside Hendry and Souttar in final minutes.
Nathan Patterson 7
Right at it from the first whistle. A constant threat on the right and clever in his crossing. Rarely troubled defensively. A proper option at right back even if Aaron Hicket returns to fitness.
Scott McTominay 7
Involved in absolutely everything in midfield. Won the physical battle more often than not and pinched the ball back in dangerous positions on multiple occasions. Beaten by Weghorst for third. Booked.
Billy Gilmour 9
An outstanding display. Composure personified in midfield and wise beyond his years. Rarely gave the ball away and was the heartbeat in a midfield. Scotland much weaker after his substitution.
John McGinn 6
Offered his usual bustling midfield output and was key in high press that caused hosts issues. Denied by Flekken with decent effort then sent another sighting well wide. Booked.
Ryan Christie 7
Full of creativity and energy in final third. Desperately unlucky as header tipped onto bar by Flekken. Another opportunity in second half but wastefully headed wide.
Lawrence Shankland 6
Some clever link-up play in the early stages but faded somewhat. Big moment in second half with goal at his mercy but could only fire off the crossbar.
Lewis Ferguson (for Gilmour, 68) 3
Unlucky not to start. Didn't see much of the ball off bench.
Che Adams (for Shankland, 68) 3
Largely an isolated figure as the Netherlands took control.
John Souttar (for Tierney, 68) 2
A real tough night. Lost Wijnaldum for second and wrong decision to step up for fourth.
Anthony Ralston (for Patterson 74) 4
Deserved an assist for an inch-perfect cross to McTominay who headed wide.
Stuart Armstong (for Christie, 74) 2
Largely anonymous as the match ran away from Scotland.
Kenny McLean (for McGinn, 85) 2
Barely touched the ball.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
