Rangers are set to appoint Scott Fry as their new set-piece coach.

The club's recent struggles with set-pieces, both offensively and defensively, have prompted this move.

Fry, who was promoted to set-play coach at Lincoln in 2024, will join the Ibrox side in their newly-created role.

He initially joined Lincoln as a goalkeeping coach in 2022, after working in Wolves' academy from 2015 to 2022.

This exclusive revelation comes after the Rangers Review disclosed on Friday that the club was on the hunt for a set-piece specialist.

This decision is believed to be strongly supported by new head coach Danny Rohl.

The club's dwindling set-piece performance in recent seasons has been a cause for concern.

Rangers scored 17 and 21 set-piece goals in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 Scottish Premiership seasons, respectively.

However, this number has drastically decreased in recent times.

In the 2023/24 season, the club managed only nine goals in the league from set-pieces, while last season's total dropped to eight, the joint-lowest in the division.

Despite showing some promise from set-pieces offensively since Rohl's arrival, the team continues to look vulnerable defensively.

Only three clubs in the Scottish Premiership have conceded a higher average of chances from set-pieces than Rangers this season.

Fry's appointment is the result of a selection process, with data used to identify overperforming set-play teams in European and UK football.

Rohl was closely involved throughout this process.

Fry also previously worked with Kevin Thelwell.

Thelwell, who spent 12 years at Wolves in various roles from 2008 to 2020, was the academy director at Molineux from 2013 to 2016 and became the sporting director in 2016, a role he held until 2020.
