Davide Ancelotti - a former contender to become Rangers head coach - has been sacked from his first managerial role in football.

After a summer of speculation linking the son of Carlo to the Ibrox club, the 36-year-old eventually joined Brazilian giants Botafogo as he took his first foray as a No.1.

Russell Martin was of course selected to be Rangers head coach at the time.

The Italian worked as his dad's assistant at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton, and Real Madrid. He is also currently part of Ancelotti's staff with the Brazil national team.

However, after just five months as manager of Botafogo, Ancelotti has lost his job.

It's believed Ancelotti was let go after he failed to defend the club's Copa Libertadores and Brazilian league titles.
