Derek McInnes has confirmed Rangers are close to announcing the signing of Olwethu Makhanya.
The Ibrox boss also stated he remains hopeful of having another signing in the building for the trip to face Dundee United on Friday night.
The Philadelphia Union centre-back, 22, is expected to make the move to Glasgow after being part of the South Africa squad at the World Cup.
Makhanya is set to become the eighth arrival of the summer in a £3m deal.
He will be the second centre-back to join McInnes’ squad following the deal that brought Ben Godfrey to Glasgow on loan from Atalanta. Rangers missed out on a deal to sign Sankhoun Diawara from Troyes.
On the player, McInnes said: “We’re close to announcing that one. It looks quite good for us.
“He’s got a lot of athleticism, he has good potential and while he’s coming from MLS and different country and different type of football, I’m confident he can cope with that.

“If you look at defence we’re short on numbers and we probably still need to bring in another couple of defenders before the window closes.”
The club are thought to be trying to force a second transfer over the line for the Scottish Premiership curtain-raiser.
“We’re still actively trying to do one more," said McInnes. “It’s quite an important one for us position-wise.
“We haven’t given up hope that both could be with us for Dundee United on Friday.”
Oliver Antman, though, is on his way out of Ibrox as he heads to Anderlecht. It's expected a fee of more than £4m will be received by Rangers as the winger leaves after 12 months at the club.
McInnes said: “A deal has been agreed and Oliver has travelled to finalise that.
“I’m pretty sure that will work out well for him.”
