Brighton and Bournemouth enjoyed memorable European nights as both Premier League sides claimed emphatic victories on home soil.
Georginio Rutter was the star for the Seagulls, scoring twice and setting up another as Brighton thrashed Lithuanian champions Kauno Zalgiris 4-0 in their Conference League opener.
Rutter had lost his place to teenage striker Charalampos Kostoulas and was handed his first start since the opening day of the campaign. The Frenchman made the most of his opportunity with a decisive display in front of Fabian Hurzeler.
Brighton dominated much of the opening half but had to wait until five minutes before the break to find the breakthrough. Ibrahim Osman raced to the byline before cutting the ball back for Rutter to finish from 10 yards.
The goal was initially ruled out over fears the ball had gone out of play, only for VAR to overturn the decision.
Rutter then turned provider in first-half stoppage time, pulling the ball back for the returning Jack Hinshelwood to double Brighton's advantage.
The forward grabbed his second after the interval when Malick Yalcouye sent Osman clear before the Ghanaian squared for Rutter to roll home.
Matt O'Riley completed the scoring with a header following a cross from debutant Younes Ibrahim as Brighton rounded off a convincing 4-0 victory.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, marked their first European match at the Vitality Stadium with a historic 3-0 victory over Sturm Graz in the Europa League.
Marco Rose's side had already opened their campaign with a 2-1 victory away to Real Sociedad, but this was the first time Bournemouth's supporters had been able to watch European football at their own ground.
Evanilson ensured the occasion would be marked with a landmark goal when his clever header from Adam Smith's cross gave the Cherries the lead shortly before half-time.
Sturm Graz threatened a response when Jurgen Heil struck the post in the second half, with Djordje Petrovic denying Jacob Hodl from the rebound.
But Bournemouth put the result beyond doubt with 14 minutes remaining. Goalkeeper Daniil Khudyakov failed to deal with a corner and Rayan pounced on the loose ball to make it 2-0.
Alvaro Rodriguez then converted a stoppage-time penalty, awarded for handball against Jon Gorenc Stankovic, to complete a 3-0 victory and cap a historic European evening on the south coast.
