Hibernian have announced that midfielder Josh Campbell has committed his long-term future to the club.
The 22-year-old has penned a four-and-a-half-year deal extending his time at Easter Road until the summer of 2027.
Campbell has been utilised by his manager Lee Johnson this season, and increased game time has seen his game take a step up.
So far this season Edinburgh-born players has scored eight goals and notched five assists in 29 appearances in all competitions.
Campbell has been at Hibs since the age of eight and went on to make his first-team debut in the Betfred Cup against Stirling Albion eleven years later.
Hibernian boss Lee Johnson commented: “We’re delighted to agree this new deal with Josh as he’s not only vital for us now but will be in the future too.
“Josh is an excellent player; he’s industrious, fit as anything, brave, trustworthy, and he will do anything to help his football club.
“He’s a really good trainer and a great lad who is always looking at ways he can improve.
“Josh is the type of player that the other young lads in the academy should be looking up to. He’s a great example for them.
“He, and the coaching staff, are looking to continue adding value to his all-round game, and Josh should have an eye on senior international caps.”
To date, Campbell has made 66 appearances in all competitions and has represented the Hibs both domestically and in the Europa Conference League. His impressive performances this season also saw him receive a Scotland U21 call-up.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
