Joe Hart 6
The Englishman flapped at punching the ball early on, but outside of that, he was consistent. The goalkeeper's distribution was fine, and all his saves were routine. There was nothing he could do about the goals conceded.
Alistair Johnston 6
He offered an option going forward and was strong in the tackle. The defender was harshly booked in the first half but that did not deter him as he linked up well with the midfield.
Cameron Carter-Vickers 6
The centre-back was strong in the air and was consistent with his passing. The 25-year-old also made some crucial blocks but was undone by a deflection that played Ciro Immobile onside for the first goal.
Liam Scales 5
A match that he started positively and looked to be in control of ended on a negative note when he was brushed aside far too easily by Immobile for the second goal which killed the game as a contest.
Greg Taylor 5
The left-back went into his shell after an early yellow card. Unlike Johnston he offered little going forward.
Callum McGregor 6
It was a game the captain was dictating at one point. Before the late collapse, he played his role effectively in the middle of
Matt O'Riley 6
He did not hit the heights of earlier European performances but was still solid enough and looked to make things happen.
Paulo Bernardo 5
It was a match in which he was mostly anonymous and struggled to hold onto the ball.
James Forrest 5
The Scotland international worked hard but struggled to make an impact while on the field. He was substituted on the hour mark.
Kyogo Furuhashi 6
It was a game he dipped in and out of as tends to be the case when there is not as much support around him. When the forward was involved in the fixture, he looked dangerous, and his movement caused plenty of problems. He was unlucky with a strike in the second half.
Yang Hyun-jun 6
He was restricted from making an impact out wide in the first 45 minutes. After the break he had a good chance when the ball fell to him at the back post. The South Korean was more of a threat in the second half.
Substitutes
Mikey Johnston (for Forrest, 61) 5
An appearance off the bench in which he gave a good account of himself. The winger provided some much-needed width and had a couple of good runs.
Oh Hyeon-gyu (for Bernardo, 69) 4
The striker made an impact as a substitute and helped the visitors get up the pitch, but he faded after the first goal went in.
David Turnbull (for Yang, 87) 3
No time for him to contribute.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
