James Tavernier has admitted the standards have been set at Rangers under Philippe Clement - and he's determined to ensure their Europa League dream doesn't end on Thursday night.

The Rangers captain has been ever-present since joining the club almost a decade ago. He’s seen it all during that period from immense highs to gut-wrenching lows. And now the Light Blues are just one game away from reaching the Europa League quarter-finals if they can overcome Benfica at Ibrox.

The tie sits finely poised at 2-2 from the first leg and Tavernier believes the squad are hungry to keep the European journey going.

He stated: "We want to be playing European football every season, it's the way we train every single day that prepares us for the game. These competitions suit us as is always an open game, the boys are really hungry to succeed.

"The standards from when the gaffer stepped into the building have gone. It's the small details and everyone is really buying into it. All the boys are really professional. It's a story and we are all in it together.”

There's been several personnel changes within the Ibrox ranks since Rangers' remarkable road to the final two years ago. Tavernier has been the one constant as captain and he reckons the newer players have all bought into the principles that are required to succeed at the club.

He added: "It's a different squad but the same principles are there, in Europe you need to outwork your opponent and have a deep tactical knowledge of the game. We will give it everything to reach the next round."
