Shaun Maloney has provided an update on Martin O'Neill following a brief hospital stay for the manager.
O'Neill was in for a small procedure last week and has been recovering across the past number of days. He will not be in the dugout for this afternoon's clash against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
It will be his assistant, Maloney, who takes the duties from the sidelines against Neil McCann's troops and the coach has revealed that the Northern Irishman did still have time to meet the players and speak to them before the game.
"He's doing loads better again," Maloney told BBC Sport Scotland. "He was at the team hotel. He spoke to the players just after the meeting.
"He's in good form. He just needs a couple of extra days.
"We're all hopeful he'll return for Tannadice. I guess he'll take it day to day, we'll see how he is through the week."
Celtic began their title defence last weekend with a 1-0 win over Dundee while Killie lost away to St Johnstone in what was the most enthralling 90 minutes of the weekend.
