Customers queued for their first experience inside Lidl’s largest store in Scotland as its doors opened today.

The West Granton Road store was Lidl’s first Edinburgh store when it originally opened in 1995, and the site and has undergone a significant extension and refurbishment.

The new expansion has increased the sales area to 1438m² making it the retailer’s largest store in Scotland.

Gordon Rafferty, Lidl GB’s regional head of property, said: “Today is a significant milestone for us here at Lidl. Opening the doors after an extension, to showcase our largest store in Scotland represents our commitment to continuing to invest and expand across the country.

“The store will bring even more great products and fantastic offers to Edinburgh residents as well as showcasing some of the incredible Scottish produce we stock throughout the year.”

During the first week of opening customers can find "exclusive deals and offers on selected products".

The new supermarket forms part of the company’s £1.45bn investment in its expansion across Great Britain in 2019 and 2020. Lidl said it has over 100 stores in Scotland and, with the opening of a new Retail Distribution Centre in Motherwell in late 2019, with "no signs of slowing".
